The Final Coil started while Pip was playing in art-rock group Endora. After Co-founder Matt Law departed, fearing the band was taking a rather heavier direction than he had envisaged Endora split leaving only the Crackcancer session as a memorial (the session was ill-fated and suffered from too diverse members, dodgy production and rushed rehearsals).

Originally a side project for Pip to outlet his more eccentric and noisy musical tendencies the Coil started to show potential when proper recording equipment was purchased (early Coil material was recorded using a demo of E-jay (Hip-Hop edition!!!), a cheap mic and a computer and the results were distributed on tape) and things started to happen.

In all honesty maybe the Coil should have remained dormant, but Pip, frustrated by lack of band members, time and/or money to get anything else going continued to plug away and out of the noisy chaos came real songs. This combined with the fact that the Final Coil absorbed all of the early Endora material that Pip had written and improved it meant that the Coil had a catalogue of over seventy songs to play with. That said it still sufferd from not having a band.

However, the Coil received a break when new member Richard joined. Offering a less 'metal' view of muisicainship Richard helped to foster the songs, new and old, into a new shape and his talent in playng improv lead solos helped too. Still it took three years to produce the band's first real album - 'The endless lack of reason'. This is down to several reasons - for those who were there they will know that gigs (few, but always cool,) were played, 4 track recordings worked on but a lack of money, and a brief dalliance with Fudulike left the Coil empty and, once again, sidelined.

However, with Pip in Poland, the Fud disbanded and more time and money available, not to mention work with Metanoia fueling the flames The Final Coil started up again. Rich and Pip recorded the 'Moving on' e.p and then a band (created specifically just to record the demo) formed to record the long awaited new album. The results were excellent and should be available soon.

As for the Coil, the future is uncertain. Pip is in Poland, Richard busy and the rest of the live band are also working on other things. However, Pip is still writing songs and determined to have them reach a wider audience somehow.
